Rachel Xuereb

Director

Rachel Xuereb is a Director of En-Sure Ltd. Rachel has been involved in the managerial aspects of En-Sure since its inception in 2007.

She has been working in the field of environmental management within both the private sector and the public sector since she graduated in 1995. Her career started as an environmental chemist with a local manufacturing firm. She was then employed with the Malta Environment & Planning Authority for a number of years working primarily on the environmental assessment of major developments projects. During her time in the public sector Rachel worked on European Union environmental legislation – she was a member of several government-appointed working groups during the screening of the EU’s Environmental Acquis.

Rachel has experience in project management, environmental assessment, and environmental management and auditing. She has worked on a number of major development projects including waste management infrastructure projects and in the development of policies and environmental legislation. At En-sure, Rachel is regularly involved in noise assessments and in the coordination of staff undertaking environmental site management, environmental and operational monitoring, archaeology monitoring, permitting and auditing at a range of major construction sites and smaller projects.

Providing guidance to Government authorities, Rachel has undertaken evaluations of European Union structural funds, rural development and fisheries programmes in Malta. This work has helped improve the environmental awareness of various government agencies and the important of environmental considerations when allocating funds to different projects.

She is trained in Environmental Management Systems and provides support during environmental due diligence and in EMAS and ISO14001 certification. Rachel is particularly interested in noise assessments and is keen to further develop expertise in this area.

Since 2001 Rachel has worked closely with the University of Malta lecturing on sustainable development and environmental management. Rachel is also on the Board of the Today Public Policy Institute, an independent and impartial think-tank focusing specifically on public policies for the purpose of improving those policies or creating viable alternatives.

Rachel is fluent in Maltese, English, and Italian, and has some knowledge of French. She enjoys exercise in general and has a keen interest in long distance running and tennis. Rachel also enjoys travelling with her family.
