Waste characterisation report for a former scrapyard

En-Sure was entrusted with carrying out a land monitoring and waste characterisation study as part of the decommissioning and redevelopment of a scrapyard which had been in operation for more than 50 years.

This study was undertaken so the new owners could take an informed decision on whether they could excavate the site to provide for parking or not, and provide parking on the roof of the development. The study concluded that the site could be excavated and it identified the appropriate disposal route for the excavated material that will originate when the site is redeveloped.

Previously collected land monitoring data was first assessed to determine whether the waste should be classified as hazardous or non-hazardous in nature, and what additional studies were required. Additional land samples were also taken and analysed in order to identify the appropriate disposal route.

This study helped ensure that the waste was disposed of in a safe and environmentally correct manner, and also enabled the client to significantly reduce his waste disposal costs.
